Southwire plans $20 million expansion in Villa Rica

DECEMBER 1, 2017 (Villa Rica, Georgia) – In a special called meeting of the Douglas County Economic Development Authority, it was announced that Southwire is expanding their distribution operations in Douglas County, Georgia. Southwire began construction on a 400,000 square foot facility in the City of Villa Rica in the same business park as their current location. The new facility will create 60 new jobs and will invest $20 million.
Ron Wilson, Chairman of the Douglas County Economic Development Authority Board of Directors, states “we are delighted to have a company like Southwire expand their operations with our county. It shows the commitment the company has to investing in the local area and as an international company, they continue to be satisfied with our workforce and business climate.”
Mayor Jeff Reese said, “As the Mayor of City of Villa Rica, we are excited to announce the expansion of the Southwire Facility in the Douglas County portion of the City of Villa Rica. We would like to acknowledge the time and efforts of the Douglas County Economic Development Authority and others to bring additional jobs and investment into the City. It speaks well of our individual and collective governmental agencies and entities when we can work together to bring new jobs and quality development into the area.”
Chairman Romona Jackson-Jones , Douglas County Government states, “we are excited about Southwire’s decision to expand in Douglas County and this announcement is a true testament this company is committed to service excellence as they continue to demonstrate a vested interest in advancing local economic opportunities”.
“Looking long-term, we project that we will reach capacity in our current Villa Rica distribution facilities by 2019 or 2020,” said Kurt Hennelly, Southwire’s executive vice president of sourcing, distribution and manufacturing strategy. “The addition of this new space fits well into the future plans for our logistics network, supports our Accelerate Growth corporate strategy and will provide us with the capability to better serve our customers.”
